Press Release: 12/20/2016 07:20 AM - 300 Block E. LaFayette Street - Unlawful Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor

On Tuesday 20 December 2016 at approx. 7:20 AM, Somonauk Police responded to the 300 Block of E. Lafayette Street to investigate a complaint of illegal parking at and in front of a business. Officers located the drivers of the illegally parked vehicles at a residence across the street from the business. They were identified as 20 year old Daniel W. Lindsay of Somonauk, Illinois, 19 year old Austin R. Dike and 18 year old Kevin M. Klock, both of Newark, Illinois. While speaking with the offenders, Officers detected the odor of alcohol and observed several open bottles and cans of alcohol inside the apartment. The offenders admitted to consuming alcohol and submitted to portable breath tests which came back positive for alcohol. Lindsay, Dike and Klock were all issued local administrative ordinance citations for Unlawful Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor.






Press Release: 12/17/2016 09:00 PM - LaSalle Street W/O Holiday Drive - Traffic Crash / Driving Under the Influence

Around 9:00 PM on Saturday December 17, 2016 Somonauk Police responded to a report of a two vehicle traffic crash with injuries on LaSalle Street west of Holiday Drive. During the course of the investigation, Stephanie A. Wilson, 35 years old of the 400 Block of E.
DeKalb Street, Somonauk was taken into custody for driving under the influence. Wilson was transported to the Sandwich Police Department for booking. Wilson was charged with improper lane use, no insurance, driving under the influence and driving under the influence .08 and above. Wilson was able to post bond and she was given a court date of Wednesday January 18, 2016 at 9:00 AM at the DeKalb County Courthouse in Sycamore.






Press Release: 12/03/2016 03:40 PM - Somonauk Police Department - In-State Warrant Arrest

On Saturday 03 December 2016 at approx. 3:40 PM, Theresa L. Mylan, 46 years old of the 400 Block of W. Washington Street,  Somonauk, turned herself in at the police department on a warrant for her arrest out of Kendall County for Retail Theft. Mylan was able to post bond and she was released with a court date of 20 December 2016 at 8:30 AM at the Kendall County Courthouse.






Press Release: 11/26/2016 09:46 AM - LaSalle Street at Zeller Street - In-State Warrant Arrest

On Saturday 26 November 2016 at approx. 9:46 AM, Somonauk Police while on a traffic stop learned that Nathan L. Zuchora, 36 years old of the 700 Block of W. Jackson Street, Ottawa, IL who was a passenger in the vehicle was wanted on a warrant for his arrest out of LaSalle County Illinois for Contempt of Court. Zuchora was taken into custody on the warrant and was unable to post bond. Zuchora was transported to the LaSalle County Jail.






Press Release: 12/01/2016 - Burglary to Motor Vehicle

On Wednesday November 15, 2016, the Somonauk Police Department received multiple reports of burglary to motor vehicle. Victims reported stolen credit cards being used at several retail locations in Plano where officers were able to obtain video of a suspect. Still shots of the suspect were posted to social media and with the assistance of tips received via social media the Somonauk Police were able to identify the suspect as 19 year-old Michael J. Thornton of the 100 Block of Tammy Lane, Somonauk. Further investigation revealed that Thornton was also a suspect in several reports of burglary to motor vehicles that occurred in Kendall County around the same time.
Somonauk Police along with the Kendall County Sheriff made contact with Thornton at his residence on Tammy Lane where they received a confession from Thornton and they were able to recover numerous items reported stolen during the burglaries. The Officer and Deputy were also able to recover stolen property linking Thornton to reports of burglary to motor vehicles in Sandwich. On Monday November 28, 2016, warrants for Burglary, a Class 2 Felony, were issued in both DeKalb and LaSalle County for Thornton’s arrest. On Tuesday November 29, 2016 Thornton was taken into custody by the LaSalle County Sheriff and at the time of this press release he remained in custody of the Sheriff unable to post bond.






Press Release: 11/18/2016 - Burglary to Motor Vehicle

The Somonauk Police Department is investigating two incidents of burglary to motor vehicle which occurred between Tuesday evening (11/15/15) and Wednesday morning (11/16/2016). The incidents occurred in the 400 Block of E. LaSalle Street and the 400 Block of E. Washington Street. Both of the victim’s vehicles were reported to have been left unlocked. Taken from one of the vehicles was State Identification and credit cards. One of the victim’s stolen credit cards was used to purchase $18.87 worth of fuel from the Murphy USA gas station in front of the Wal Mart in Plano at approx 10:58 PM on Tuesday 11/15/16. The suspect was driving a small red four door vehicle that appears to have a chrome colored grill and no front registration place. The suspect was a white male wearing what appears to be an orange colored hooded Under Armor sweatshirt. After fueling, the male approached the cashier and attempted to purchase cigarettes without presenting identification and was turned away by the cashier. The Somonauk Police Department is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect and vehicle in the images provided. Press Release: 11/12/2016 10:55 AM - Somonauk Police Department - In-State Warrant Arrest

On Saturday 12 November 2016 at approx. 10:55 AM, Kristine A. Burton, 51 years old of the 500 Block of 11th Avenue, Mendota, Illinois turned herself in on a warrant for her arrest for Failure to Appear on a speeding charge in Ogle County, Illinois. Burton was placed through booking procedures and was later released after posting a cash bond.






Press Release: 10/29/2016 07:52 PM - N/B Cherry Street at Market Street - Driving While License Suspended

At approx. 7:52 AM on Saturday 29 October 2016, Somonauk Police observed a white Nisan Xterra turn onto Cherry Street from DeKalb Street and then onto Market Street from Cherry Street and the driver fail to signal both of their turns. Somonauk Police conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in the parking lot of the Casey's General Store and it was learned that the driver, identified as 39 year old Kelly M. O'Leary of the 100 Block of Golfview Court, Sandwich, Illinois had a Suspended Illinois Driver's License. O'Leary was placed under arrest and transported to the Sandwich Police Department to be placed through booking procedures. O'Leary was given a written warning for failure to signal and she was issued a citation for Driving While License Suspended. O'Leary posted bond and is due in court in Sandwich on Wednesday 16 November 2016 at 9:00 AM.






Press Release: 10/08/2016 12:04 PM - W/B Market Street W/O Maple Street - Driving While License Revoked / No BAIID When Required

On 08 October 2016 at approx. 12:04 PM, Somonauk Police stopped a vehicle for speeding 50 MPH in a 35 MPH speed zone. Police learned that the driver, identified as Justin A. Burns, 35 years old of the 2400 Block of Erskine Road, Joliet Illinois had a revoked Illinois Driver's License. Burns was issued a restricted driving permit by the Secretary of State, but Burns did not have a copy of the permit with him. Burns was also not driving a vehicle equipped with an ignition interlock device, as required by the permit. Burns was placed under arrest and transported to the Sandwich Police Department for booking procedures. Burns was charged with Speeding 50 MPH in a 35 MPH speed zone, driving while license revoked, and operating a vehicle not equipped with a BAIID when license so restricted. Burns posted bond and is due in court in Sandwich on Wednesday 16 November 2016 at 9:00 AM






Press Release: 10/07/2016 12:30 PM - 400 Block E. Ann Street - Domestic Battery

On Saturday 08 October 2016 at approx. 1:40 PM, Somonauk Police arrested Nina M. Swistara, 24 years old, of the 400 Block of E. Ann Street on signed complaints for domestic battery. The complaints were signed by her live-in boyfriend who reported that Swistara slapped and kicked her on Friday 07 October 2016. Swistara was transported to the Sandwich Police Department to be placed through booking
procedures and then she was transported to the DeKalb County Jail to await a bond hearing.






Press Release: 10/03/2016 05:43 PM - W. LaSalle Street at Maple Street - Disorderly Conduct

On Tuesday 04 October 2016, Somonauk Police arrested 80 year old Gary D. Kadlec of the 900 Block of Buckridge Dr NE, Rochester, Minnesota for Disorderly Conduct. This arrest is a result of the department's investigation into several leads received from the public who learned about a reported child luring incident via the media and social media. Some of the leads received were from other victims who did not report their incident with Kadlec to the police and which allegadly occurred in Lake Holiday and Yorkville. Somonauk Police located Kadlec in Lake Holiday at the residence of a family member. Kadlec was transported to the Sandwich Police Department and placed through booking procedures and he was released on bond with a court date of 16 November 2016 at 9:00 AM in Sandwich






Press Release: 10/02/2016 08:05 AM - Market Street at Dewey Street - In-State Warrant Arrest

On Sunday 02 October 2016 at approx. 8:10 AM, Somonauk Officer's while on a traffic stop learned that the driver of the vehicle, identified as Javier Garcia-Campos, 22 years old of the 600 Block of W. Lafayette Street, Ottawa, Illinois had a valid warrant for his arrest out of Aurora Illinois for Failure to Appear on the original charge of Driving While License Suspended. Garcia-Campos was placed under arrest on the warrant and transported to the Sandwich Police Department for processing. Garcia-Campos posted bond and was released with a court date of 24 October 2016 at 9:00 at the Aurora Brach Court.






Press Release: 09/07/2016 09:57 PM - Market Street at Maple Street - Driving While License Suspended

On Wednesday, September 7th,2016 at approx. 9:57pm, Somonauk Police were stationary near the intersection of Market St. and Maple St. and observed a gray Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling westbound Market St, passing another vehicle at a high rate of speed which was radared at 52mph. A traffic stop of the vehicle was conducted and it was found that the driver, identified as 25 year old Robert W. Simmons of Winter Park, Florida had a suspended Florida driver's license. Simmons was issued citations for Driving While License Suspended and Speeding. Simmons was released on a Notice to Appear bond and given a court date of October 19th, 2016 at 9:00am at the Dekalb County Court in Sandwich, Illinois.






Press Release: 09/05/2016 04:55 PM - LaSalle Street at Holiday Drive - Driving While License Suspended

On Monday 05 September 2016 at approx. 4:45 PM, a Somonauk Police Officer who was stationary at the intersection of LaSalle Street and Holiday Drive observed a silver convertible stop at the stop sign and then pull onto LaSalle Street in front of a pickup truck towing a
trailer. The truck and trailer was forced to swerve into the opposite lane of traffic in order to avoid a rear-ed collision with the convertible.
The officer conducted a traffic stop on the convertible and learned that the driver, identified as 54 year old Erik A. Cross of the 400 Block of Holiday Drive, Somonauk, Illinois had a suspended Illinois Driver's License. Cross was placed under arrest and charged with Failure to Yield - Private Road or Drive, Driving While Suspended and Operating an Uninsured Vehicle. Cross was given a written warning for Operating a Vehicle With an Expired Registration. Cross posted bond and is due in court in Ottawa on 24 October 2016 at 9:00 AM






Press Release: 08/31/2016 08:55 AM - Market Street at Maple Street - Driving While License Suspended

On 13 August 2016 at approx. 8:55 AM, Somonauk Officers while on a traffic stop learned that Bernard Hand, 80 years old of the 14000 Block of Jordan Avenue, Oak Park, IL had a Suspended Driver's License. Hand was issued a citation for Driving While License Suspended and a citation for Operating an Uninsured Vehicle. Hand was bonded on scene and is due in court in Sandwich on Wednesday 21 September 2016 at 9:00 AM.






Press Release: 07/24/2016 11:11 AM - E/B Market Street E/O Somonauk Road - Driving While License Suspended

On Sunday 24 July 2016 at approx. 11:11 AM, Somonauk Police stopped a beige Jeep for crossing over the center line on Market Street just east of Somonauk Road. Upon further investigation, it was learned that the driver, identified as Miguel A. Andrade, 22 years old of the 900 Block of Mountain Street, Aurora, Illinois had a Suspended Illinois Driver's License. Andrade was placed under arrest and a passenger of the vehicle who had a valid driver's license was permitted to remove the vehicle from the scene. Andrade was transported to the Sandwich Police Department to be placed through booking procedures. Andrade was issued a written warning for Improper Lane Use, a citation for Driving While Suspended and a citation for Operating an Uninsured Vehicle. Andrade was released on an Individual Bond and is due in court on Wednesday 17 August 2016 at 9:00 AM in Sandwich.






Press Release: 06/09/2016 03:04 PM - LaSalle Street at Dewey - Driving While License Suspended

On Sunday 19 June 2016 at approx. 3:04 PM, Somonauk Police conducted a traffic stop on a white Pontiac Bonneville for speeding 43 MPH in a 25 MPH speed zone. Upon further investigation, it was learned that the driver, identified as Stephanie C. Johnson, 24 years old of the 400 Block of Penn Street, Streator, Illinois had a Suspended Illinois drivers license. Johnson was placed under arrest and transported to the Sandwich Police Department for booking. Johnson was released on bond with a court date of 20 July 2016 at 9:00 AM in Sandwich.






Press Release: 06/06/2016 05:53 PM - S/B Gage Street at Geraldine Court - Driving While License Suspended

On Monday 06 June 2016 at approx. 5:53 PM, Somonauk Police stopped a white BMW for not displaying a front registration plate. Upon further investigation, it was learned that the driver, Bradley S. Yingling, 32 years old of the 2500 Block of N4645th Road, Somonauk, IL had a Suspended Illinois Driver's License. Yingling was taken into custody and transported to the Sandwich Police Department for booking.
Yingling posted bond and is due in court in Ottawa on 25 July 2016 at 9:00 AM






Press Release: 05/29/2016 12:34 AM - N/B Gage Street S/O LaSalle Street - Driving Under the Influence / No Valid Driver's License

On Sunday 29 May 2016 at approx. 12:43 PM, Somonauk Police responded to the area of S. Gage Street for a report of a blue pickup truck coming into town that was driving slow and all over the road. Somonauk Police located the truck entering the Village and conducted a traffic stop on it after observing it drive between 5-15 MPH under the posted speed limit, and crossing over the center line and almost hitting two oncomming vehicles. Upon further investigation, the driver, identified as Deanna A. Lyons, 56 years old of the 2400 Block of N4009th Road, Serena, Illinois was placed under arrest for No Valid Driver's License and Driving Under the Influence. Lyons was transported to the Sandwich Police Department where she was placed through booking procedures and later released on bond. Lyons is charged with Improper Lane Use, No Valid Driver's License, Driving Under the Influence and Driving Under the Influence .08 or More as she submitted to a chemical test that showed a blood alcohol content of 0.294. Lyons is due in court in Ottawa on 18 July 2016 at 9:00 AM






Press Release: 05/21/2016 08:19 AM - W/B Market Street at Maple Street - Driving While License Suspended

On Saturday 21 May 2016 at approx. 8:19 AM, Somonauk Police conducted a traffic stop on a green Ford Focus for speeding 53 MPH in a 35 MPH speed zone. The driver was identified as a Jerzy Jandura, 56 years old of the 7200 Block of W. Crain Street, Niles, Illinois. It was learned that Jandura's Illinois Driver's License was currently Suspended. Jandura was taken into custody and transported to the Sandwich Police Department for booking. Jandura was charged with Speeding and Driving While License Suspended. Jandura posted a cash bond and was released with a court date of Wednesday 15 June 2016 at 9:00 AM in Sandwich.






Press Release: 05/12/2016 10:01 PM - Somonauk Road at Market Street - Traffic Crash / Driving Under the Influence

On Thursday May 12, 2016 at approx. 10:01 PM a vehicle was observed traveling southbound on Somonauk Road and disobeyed the stop sign at Market Street (Route 34). The vehicle continued through the intersection, leaving the roadway and struck the ditch embankment and then continued into the corn field south of the intersection for approx. 80 yards where the vehicle came to rest. The driver, identified as Tracey M. Berg, 32 years old of the 900 Block of Brandon Court, North Aurora, Illinois was transported to the Valley West Hospital in Sandwich, Illinois for minor injuries. Upon further investigation, Berg was charged with disobeying a stop sign and driving under the influence of alcohol. Berg was taken into custody at the hospital and transported to the Sandwich Police Department where she was booked. Berg was able to post bond and released. She was given a court date of June 1st, 2016 at 9:00am at the Dekalb County Court House in Sycamore,Illinois.






Press Release: 04/03/16 3:02 PM - Green Street at BNSF Railroad Crossing - Fatal Train vs. Vehicle Accident

On Sunday 03 April 2016 at approx. 3:02 PM, Somonauk Police and the Somonauk Fire Department responded to a report of an Amtrak train verses vehicle accident that occurred where N. Green Street crosses the BNSF tracks. With the assistance of the Amtrak Police and Detectives and Crash Specialist from the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, preliminary investigation shows that a 28 year old male from Sandwich who was driving north on Green Street drove around the gates and was struck by a westbound Amtrak that was traveling from Union Station to California. The driver, who's name is not being released at this time pending family notification was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the 273 passengers or crew on board the train were injured.






Press Release03/20/16 5:50 PM - J.R. Wood Elementary School - Criminal Trespass

On Sunday 20 March 2016 at approx. 5:50 PM, Somonauk Police responded to a report of four (4) juveniles on the roof of the J.R. Wood Elementary School located at 320 S. Maple Street. Upon arrival, police we able to locate the juveniles who were still on the roof of the school. Upon contact with the juveniles, they ran to the opposite side of the building and jumped off the roof. One (1) of the juveniles voluntarily came to the officer and the other three (3) juveniles fled and were located a short time later hiding behind vehicles at the Somonauk High School. All four (4) juveniles were taken into custody and transported to the Somonauk Police Department. The juveniles were issued Village Ordinance Tickets for Criminal Trespass and were released to their parents.






Press Release: 03/20/16 3:01 PM - S/B Somonauk Road S/o Prairie View Drive - No Valid Driver's License

On Sunday 20 March 2016 at approx. 3:01 PM, Somonauk Police stopped a vehicle for speeding 71 MPH in a 55 MPH speed zone.
Upon further investigation, it was learned that the driver, identified as Carlos Serrano Deniz, 51 years old of the 5500 Block of W. Wrightwood Avenue, Chicago, Illinois, did not possess a valid driver's license. Serrano Deniz was issued citations for Speeding 71 MPH in a 55 MPH speed zone and for No Valid Driver's License. Serrano Deniz posted bond and is due in court in Sandwich on Wednesday 20 April 2016 at 9:00 AM.






Press Release03/14/16 5:52 PM - E/B market Street W/O Gage Street - Driving While License Suspended

On Monday 14 March 2016 at approx. 5:52 PM, Somonauk Police stopped a vehicle for speeding 50 MPH in a 30 MPH speed zone.
Upon further investigation, it was learned that the driver, identified as Gustavo Diaz, 19 years old of the 200 Block of N. Liberty Street, Leland had a suspended Illinois Driver's License. Diaz was arrested and transported to the Sandwich Police Department for processing.
Diaz was charged with Speeding and Driving While Suspended, he posted bond and is due in court on 20 April 2016 at 9:00 Am in Sandwich.






Press Release: 03/13/16 10:53 AM W/B market Street at Gage Street - Driving While License Suspended

On Sunday 13 March 2016 at approx. 10:53 AM, Somonauk Police while on general patrol in the area of Market Street and Gage Street observed a vehicle and driver that were known to police. It was further known to the officer that the Illinois Driver's License of the driver, known to be Dillon M. Osborne, 20 years old of the 400 Block of W. Washington Street was currently Suspended. A traffic stop was conducted and Osborne was taken into custody without incident. Osborne was transported to the Sandwich Police Department for processing and later released on bond with a 20 April 2016 court date at 9:00 AM in Sandwich.






Press Release: 02/16/16 2:44 PM 2:44 PM - W/B LaSalle Street at Maple Street - Driving While License Suspended

On Tuesday 16 January 2016 at approx. 2:44 PM, Somonauk Police observed a vehicle being driven by Amie R. Harazmus, 31 years old of the 100 Block of Green Ridge Avenue, Earlville. It was known by the officer that Amie's Illinois Driver's License was currently suspended. Contact was made with Amie in the parking lot of the Somonauk Middle School and she was placed under arrest for Driving While License Suspended. Amie was transported to the Sandwich Police Department where she was placed through booking procedures and later released on bond with a court date of Wednesday 16 March 2016 at 9:00 AM in Sandwich.






Press Release: 02/07/16 5:10 AM - 400 Block E. LaSalle Street - Domestic Battery

On Sunday, February 7, 2016, Somonauk Police responded to the 400 block of E. LaSalle St. for a report of a domestic battery. During the investigation, it was learned that Jesus A. Quezada, 33 years of age, of the 800 block of W. South St. in Plano, had head-butted his girlfriend. Quezada was taken into custody and transported to the Sandwich Police Department for processing and was subsequently transported to the DeKalb County Jail in Sycamore. Quezada is charged with two counts of Domestic Battery. Quezada is being held at the DeKalb County Jail pending a bond hearing.






Press Release: 02/04/16 5:16 AM - LaSalle Street at Depot Street - Driving While License Suspended

On Thursday February 4, 2016 at approx. 5:16 AM, Somonauk Police stopped a white Ford F150 for Speeding and for Disobeying a Stop Sign in the area of LaSalle Street at Depot Street. Upon further investigation, it was learned that the driver, identified as Lelsie L. Collier, 41 years old of the 100 Block of Lincoln Avenue, Hinckley, Illinois had a Suspended driver's license. Collier was placed under arrest and was transported to the Sandwich Police Department where she was placed through booking procedures and later released on bond with a court date of March 23, 2016 at 9:00 AM in Ottawa.







Press Release: 02/01/16 5:30 PM - East Street at Market Street - In-State Warrant

On Monday February 1, 2016 at approx. 5:45 PM, Somonauk Police, while assisting a motorist with an out of control intoxicated passenger came into contact with a Jeremy H. Ulbricht, 25 years old of the 1500 Block of Elgin Avenue, Joliet, IL who was also a passenger of the vehicle. Ulbricht was found to have a warrant for his arrest out of DeKalb County, Illinois for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. Ulbricht was taken into custody and was not able to post bond. Ulbricht was transported to the DeKalb County Jail in Sycamore.







Press Release: 01/29/16 2:07 AM - Casey's General Store - Aggravated Assault / Criminal Damage to Property / In-State Warrant

On Friday January 29, 2016 at approx. 2:07 AM, Somonauk Police responded to the Casey’s General Store, 900 E. Market Street for a report of a fight in progress. It was learned that Michael J. Klug, 23 years old of the 500 block of Woodlawn Ave, Aurora, IL and Salvador Leon, 25 years old of the 600 block of S. Lake Street, Aurora, IL started a verbal altercation with two other customers of the store. At some point, Klug threw a beer bottle at one of the other customers who ducked, and the bottle struck the glass door of the business causing it to shatter. The second customer chased Klug into the parking lot where Leon then threw a beer bottle at him. Klug and Leon fled east on U.S. Route 34 towards Sandwich and were located and detained a short time later by Sandwich Police. Both Klug and Leon were transported to the Sandwich Police Department for processing and were later released on bond with a court date of February 16, 2016 at 9:00 AM in Sycamore, IL.
