Somonauk Police conducted a traffic stop on a mattress delivery truck for disobeying a "No Truck" sign. The driver, identified as a Jaime R. Aguirre, 36 years old of the 900 Block of E. New York Street in Aurora was found to have a Failure to Appear warrant for his arrest out of Aurora, Illinois for Criminal Trespass to Vehicle. Through further investigation, it was also learned that Aguirre had multiple warrants for his
arrest out of Grady County, Georgia. Aguirre was cited for Disobeying a Traffic Control Device and he was taken into custody and transported to the DeKalb County Jail in Sycamore on the warrants.

Media Threat to Somonauk High School
Somonauk Police received a report of a threat posted via the Yik Yak smartphone social media application. Somonauk Police, with the assistance of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office were able to identify a juvenile suspect who was taken into custody a few hours later. The juvenile suspect has since been released to their parents and will be referred to the State’s Attorney’s Office for prosecution. Police are confident that the the situation is under control and that there is no known immediate threat to the community or school at this time.

- Somonauk Road at Market Street - Driving While
Somonauk Police conducted an investigative traffic stop on a Harley Davidson motorcycle after performing an inquiry on the vehicles license plate and learning that the registered owners drivers license was suspended. Upon further investigation, it was learned that the registered owner, identified as a Thomas C. Thorne, 42 years old of Sycamore, IL. was in fact the driver. Thorne was placed under arrest for driving while license suspended and he was transported to the Sandwich Police Department for booking and released on bond. Thorne has a 16 December 2015 court date at 9:00 AM in Sandwich.

5:05 PM - Market Street E/O Somonauk Road - Traffic
On Saturday 31 October 2015 at approximately 5:05 PM, The Somonauk Police Department along with the Sandwich Police Department and the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office all responded to a report of a multi-vehicle accident, which was originally reported to be at an unknown specific location somewhere between Somonauk and Sandwich on US Rt 34. Upon arrival, Somonauk Police found the accident was within their jurisdiction and involved two vehicles with one vehicle stopped just east of the Casey's and the other vehicle stopped approx 1/4 MI east and just west of the Sannauk Forest Preserve. Through driver and witness statements, and officers observations on scene, it was determined Kathy J. Francis, 39 years old of the 500 Block of Plaza Drive, Mendota was eastbound driving a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder and crossed the center line and struck a 1999 Buick Regal being driven by Barbara J. Hoffman, 80 years old of the 400 Block of W. Center Street, Sandwich. Somonauk Fire and EMS responded to the scene and all passengers, including a 1 year old passenger in Francis' vehicle and an 80 year old passenger in Hoffman's all reported no injuries and signed medical releases. Francis was issued a traffic citation for Improper Lane Usage and has a court date of Wednesday 16 December 2015 at 9:00 AM in Sandwich Rt34 between Gletty Road and Somonauk Road was closed for approximately 1 hour while police conducted the investigation and until the vehicles were removed. Somonauk Police wish to thank the DeKalb County Sheriff and officers and cadets from the Sandwich Police for their assiatance.
10/15/15 5:13 PM - 100 Block E. Ann Street -
Aggravated Assault / Battery
Somonauk Police were dispatched to the 100 Block of East Ann St. after receiving a 911 call in reference to a individual threatening a person with a gun, upon arrival of the Somonauk Police a number of individuals were observed on the property in a verbal altercation. Thru the investigation and witness statements it was determined that Keith J. Burkhart, 62 years old of the 2100 Block of N41st Road, Sheridan, IL. allegedly pointed a pistol at an individual and made threats of bodily harm to the individual. Additionally Burkhart ran his powered wheelchair into the leg of a female causing bruising to her leg. Burkhart was charged with Aggravated Assault and Battery and was released on a Notice to Appear in Court on November 18, 2015 at 9:00am at the DeKalb County Courthouse in Sycamore, Illinois.
Somonauk High School - Unlawful Possession of a
On Wednesday 7 October 2015, Somonauk Police arrested Kenneth A. Didier, 18 years old of the 200 Block of Easy Street, Somonauk, Illinois on two (2) Class 4 Felony charges of Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance. The arrest stems from an incident at the Somonauk High School on Thursday 1 October 2015 where Didier was found to be in possession of prescription medication that was not his and that he did not have a prescription for. Didier was transported to the DeKalb County Jail.
12:00 PM - 900 Block Prairie View Drive - Burglary
On Friday 25 September 2015, Somonauk Police responded to a residence in the 900 Block of Prairie View Drive for a report of a burglary that had just occurred. Upon arrival, the resident advised police that a black male wearing a traffic safety vest came to his front door and advised he was there to pick up scrap metal. The resident became suspicious as he did not call to arrange the pick up of any scrap metal. As the male walked away from the residence and towards the street, the resident noticed two other black males exit his garage carrying power tools. The three suspects ran to a white extended cab Dodge Ram 1500 and left the area driving north on Somonauk Road. The resident was able to obtain a license plate of the vehicle and it was later learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen on Wednesday 23 September 2015 out of Aurora, Illinois. The suspects got away with three power tools valued at approximately $300.00 Police put out a local dispatch with a description of the vehicle and suspects and were unable to locate it.

3:09 AM - LaFayette Street at East Street - Unlawful
Possession of Hypodermic Syringes and Needles
Dekalb County Sheriff's Office and the Somonauk Police Department responded to the 300 Block of N. East St. in reference to a resident reporting a subject laying in their front yard at approx. 1:29am. A female was located sitting in the front yard of the residence. Several minutes later, her boyfriend, identified as a Justin J. Lawson, 25 years old of the 400 Block of Park Street, Yorkville, IL. approached the scene while officers were speaking with his girlfriend. Through further investigation, Lawson was found with several hypodermic needles in his possession. Lawson was then taken into custody and transported to the DeKalb County Jail.

8:02 AM - Warrant Arrest - Aggravated Domestic Battery
On Wednesday September 2, 2015, Somonauk Police with the assistance of the DeKalb County Sheriff's Police arrested Grant E. Burkhart, 29 years old, of 130 E. Ann Street at his residence on a warrant for his arrest out of DeKalb County Illinois. The warrant stems from an investigation by the Somonauk Police after a report of a domestic battery which occurred on 29 August 2015. Burkhart is charged with four (4) Felony Counts of Domestic Battery and Aggravated Domestic Battery, one a Class 2, one a Class 3 and two Class 4. The charges are felonies due to Burkhart having two (2) previous convictions for Domestic Battery in LaSalle County and the Aggravated Domestic Battery is due to the great bodily harm that was afflicted on the victim. Burkhart was transported to the DeKalb County Jail where he will await a bond hearing scheduled for 8:45 AM on Thursday 03 September 2015.

3:55 PM - 130 E. Ann Street - Warrant Arrest - Theft
Somonauk Police received an anonymous tip that a Cathy K. Rowland, 19 years old of the 10300 Block of Calhoun Road, Rock Falls was staying temporarily with a family member at an apartment in the 400 Block of N. Sycamore Street and that she had a warrant for her arrest. Somonauk Police responded and made contact with Rowland and she was taken into custody on a warrant for Theft out of Whiteside County, IL. Bond was $20,000 with 10% to apply, and Rowland was unable to post bond. Rowland was transported to the DeKalb County Jail.

10:59 AM - E/B Market Street E/O Somonauk Road -
Driving While License Revoked
On Tuesday 11 August 2015 at approximately 10:59 AM, a Somonauk Officer while on patrol observed a black Chevrolet Tahoe traveling east on Market Street being driven by a female known to the officer to be a Becky L. Johnson of the 100 Block of Cook Court who's Illinois driver's license was currently revoked. A traffic stop was conducted and Johnson was placed under arrest for driving while license revoked. Johnson was later released on a Notice to Appear in court on 16 September 2015 at 9:00 AM.

Multiple Locations - Reports of Burglary to Motor
Vehicle / Criminal Damage to Property
On Sunday 12 July 2015 at approximately 4:40 AM, Somonauk Police received a report of a burglary to motor vehicle in progress in the 300 Block of S. Sycamore Street. The caller advised that they observed two (2) male white, one wearing a black t-shirt and a backpack, the other wearing a white tank-top, both with flashlights, in a vehicle parked in their driveway. Two residents gave chase, with the offenders running in a north west direction through yards between Washington and DeKalb, and Sycamore and Gage Street(s). The residents lost track of the offenders. Sandwich Police and the DeKalb County Sheriff responded to assist. A perimeter was established and a K9 performed a track. The K9 tracked to the same location the residents chased the offenders to and then lost the scent and the track was terminated. Throughout the day Sunday, police received numerous other reports of burglary to motor vehicle and criminal damage to property (slashed tires). Police took additional reports of burglary to motor vehicle and criminal damage to vehicle from a residence in the area of the 100 Block of W. LaSalle Street, from eight (8) residences in the area of Morrow Street, four (4) residences in the area of Rollin Road, and one (1) residence in the area of the 200 Block of S. Cherry Street. Police also responded to a residence in the 400 Block of Graf Street for a report of a traffic crash. Police located an abandoned vehicle in the residents driveway up against the mailbox which was later reported stolen by the owner. Warrant Arrest / DUI
On Monday 22 June 2015 at approximately 3:45 PM, Adam W. Lackey, 25 years old of the 400 Block of E. Dale Street, Somonauk, Illinois turned himself in to Somonauk Police on an active warrant for his arrest out of Kane County, Illinois for Failure to Appear on the original charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. Lackey was able to post bond and was released with a court date of 9 July 2015 at 9:00 AM at the Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles.

1:30 AM - E. LaSalle Street W/O Holiday Drive -
Traffic Crash/Driving Under the Influence
Somonauk Police responded to a report of a one vehicle motorcycle accident on E. LaSalle St just west of Holiday Dr. Upon arrival by police, Somonauk Fire Department EMS personnel were already on scene providing treatment to the driver who was identified as Steven K. Smethurst, 58 years old of the 1700 Block of Doris Road, Sandwich, IL. Smethurst told police he was east bound on LaSalle Street and that he swerved to avoid a hitting a deer and that he lost control, crossed the center line and crashed. Smethurst admitted to police that he had consumed 6 beers while watching the Blackhawks game. Smethurst was transported to Valley West Community Hospital in Sandwich for treatment. At the hospital, Smethurst concented to chemical testing and willingly provided police with blood and urine samples for further analysis. Further charges are pending the results of the testing. Smethurst has been charged with Driving Under the Influence, Driving While License Revoked, and Violation of License Classification. Smethurst was released from custody and is due in court on Wednesday 17 July 2015 at 9:00 AM in Sycamore. After a review of the case by the DeKalb County States Attorneys Office, additional charges of Aggravated DUI, a Class 1 Felony and Aggravated Driving While License Revoked, a Class 4 felony have been approved as Smethurst has five (5) prior convictions. Somonauk Police plan to seek the forfeiture of the 2014 Honda Motorcycle Smethurst was driving as permitted under law. If successfully awarded the vehicle, this will be the second (2nd) vehicle Somonauk Police have seized from Smethurst. The first (1st) was a 2003 Dodge Dakota pickup truck the department seized from Smethurst when he was arrested, also for driving under the influence, in 2005.

7:45 PM - Silver Spoon Restaurant - Assault /
On Friday 05 June 2015 at approximately 7:45 PM, Somonauk Police received a complaint of a disorderly employee at the Silver Spoon Restaurant. Somonauk Police located the employee, identified as Jeffrey Heth, 32 years old of the 2300 Block of N45th Road, Leland, IL. on Dale Street and Cook Court, just west of the restaurant. Thru investigation, it was learned that Heth used profanity towards another employee and also approached the employee in a manner that caused the employee to fear for their safety. Heth was arrested and charged with Assault and Disorderly Conduct.

5:07 AM - W/B Market Street at Gage Street - Fleeing /
Attempt to Elude Police Officer
On Sunday 17 May 2015 at approximately 5:07 AM, Somonauk Police received a complaint of a black Dodge Charger stopped in the west bound lane of Market Street with the driver asleep at the wheel with his foot on the brake. Upon arrival, Somonauk Police attempted to wake the driver. The driver eventually woke up and then started driving west on Market Street. The driver was traveling approximately 50 MPH, and was weaving back and forth within his lane and crossing the center and fog line. Somonauk Police pursued the vehicle for approximately 5 miles before terminating the pursuit. The vehicle registered to a Landon P. Burke of the 2500 Block of Tower Road in West Brooklyn. Lee County Sheriff's Deputies responded to the area of Tower Road and located the vehicle heading towards Burke's residence. The vehicle was stopped for speeding and after further investigation, Burke was arrested for driving under the influence and illegal transportation of alcohol. Somonauk Police charged Burke with Improper Parking on the Roadway, Improper Lane Usage and Fleeing or Attempt to Elude a Police Officer. Burke is due in court in Sandwich on Wednesday 17 June 2015 at 9:00 AM

Warrant Arrest / Aggravated Battery
While on a traffic stop, Somonauk Police learned that the passenger of the vehicle, identified as a Bradley D. Wolf, Jr. 25 years old of Somonauk, IL. was wanted on a warrant for his arrest out of Kane County, Illinois for Aggravated Battery / Public Place. Wolf was able to post bond and was given a June 1, 2015 court date at the Kane County Judicial Center in St. Charles, IL at 9:00 AM

2:08 PM - Somonauk Public Library - Warrant Arrest
(x3) / Operation of Vehicle When Registration
On Monday 20 April at approximately 2:00 PM, Somonauk Police Received an anonymous tip that Megan Priebe, formally of the Sandwich area, who was wanted on multiple warrants for her arrest was at the Somonauk Public Library and about to leave in a black truck with Wisconsin plates. Upon arrival in the area, police observed the vehicle in question leave and head east on LaSalle Street. A check on the vehicle's registration revealed that it was currently suspended. A traffic stop was made shortly thereafter with Sandwich Police responding to assist. Priebe was taken into custody on two (2) DeKalb County warrants for Failure to Appear on the original charge of Aggravated Battery and one (1) Kendall County warrant for Failure to Appear for the original charge of Contempt of Court. Priebe was unable to post bond and was transported to the DeKalb County Jail. The driver, identified as William O. Kalk was arrested and issued a citation for Operation of a Vehicle When Registration Suspended. Kalk was released on scene on Notice to Appear in Ottawa on 8 June 2015 at 9:00 AM
02/19/15 3:15 PM - Casey's General Store - Domestic
On Saturday 21 February 2015, Somonauk Police arrested James J. Rowan Jr., 19 years old of the 2000 Block of Rosemary Circle, Sandwich on a signed complaint for Domestic Battery. The complaint alleges that Rowan grabbed the back of the jacket of a 17 year old ex-girlfriend and threw her to the ground in the parking lot of the Somonauk Casey's General Store. Rowan was transported to the DeKalb County Jail to await a bond hearing in front of a judge.

5:03 PM - E/B Market Street at Maple Street -
Possession Cannabis / Drug Paraphernalia
On Monday 16 February 2015 at approximately 5:03 PM Somonauk Police stopped a gray Nissan Maxima for speeding 50 MPH in the 35MPH speed zone. The driver was identified as a Jose M. Morquecho Ontiveros, 22 years old, of the 300 Block of N. Center Street, Plano Illinois. While speaking with Morquecho Ontiveroa, the officer detected a strong smell of cannabis emitting from the vehicle. Morquecho Ontiveros admitted that he had smoked cannabis earlier in the day and that he had a pipe in the left pocket of his jacket. Upon a search of Morquecho Ontiveros' person, the officer located a multi-colored glass pipe containing burnt residue and a small amount of cannabis. Morquecho Ontiveros was placed under arrest and charged with Possession of Cannabis and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was also cited for speeding. Morquecho Ontiveros posted bond and is scheduled to appear in court on March 18, 2015

On Friday 02 January 2015 at approximately 11:44 AM, Somonauk Police arrested Dexter R. Milligan, 31 of the 100 Block of Somonauk Road, Somonauk on four (4) outstanding warrants for his arrest. The warrants included: DuPage County, Illinois: Failure to Appear, Driving Under the Influence, DuPage County, Illinois: Failure to Appear, Driving While License Suspended, Operation, Uninsured Motor Vehicle, DeKalb County, Illinois: Failure to Appear, Driving Under the Influence, Aurora, Illinois: Failure to Appear, Driving While License Suspended. Milligan was unable to post bond and he was transported to the DeKalb County Jail.
