Press Release: 10/01/17 10:30 AM - 300 Block E. Market Street - In-State Warrant Arrest

On Sunday 01 October 2017 at approx. 10:30 AM, Somonauk Police made contact with Angel E. Moreno, 24 years old, of the 300 Block of S. Cherry Street, Somonauk, IL. It was known to the officer that Moreno had a warrant for his arrest out of DeKalb County, Illinois for Failure to Appear on the original charge of Trespassing. Moreno was unable to post bond and he was turned over to a DeKalb County Sheriff's Deputy who transported Moreno to the DeKalb County Jail.






Press Release: 09/05/17 2:50 PM - E/B LaSalle Street at Maple Street - Driving While License Revoked

On Tuesday 05 September 2017 at approx. 2:50 PM, Somonauk Police while on patrol in the area of LaSalle Street and Maple Street observed a vehicle that was known to the officer being driven by a male who was also known to the officer to not have a valid driver's license. Contact was made with Charles E. Schramer in the parking lot of a local church where he was placed under arrest for driving with a revoked Illinois Driver's License. Schramer was transported to the Sandwich Police Department for processing. Schramer was charged with driving with a revoked driver's license and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Schramer was released on a notice to appear and is due in court in Ottawa on Monday 23 October 2017 at 9:00 AM.






Press Release: 08/05/17 3:50 PM - 200 Block S. Sycamore Street - In-State Warrant Arrest

On Saturday 05 August 2017 at approx 3:50 PM, Somonauk Police and the DeKalb County Sheriff responded to a residence in the 200 Block of S. Sycamore Street for a report of a resident who had an active warrant for his arrest out of Kendall County, Illinois. Contact was made with 43 year old Jarrod L. Fortner who was placed under arrest on the warrant. Fortner was unable to post bond and was transported to the DeKalb County Jail.






Press Release: 08/05/17 1:34 PM - S/B Gage Street N/o Depot Street - Driving While License Revoked

On Saturday 05 August 2017 at approx. 1:34 PM, Somonauk Police stopped a vehicle for improper lane use. After further investigation, it was learned the the driver, identified as 33 year old Miguel A. Martinez of the 5400 Block of S. Union Avenue, Chicago, Illinois had a suspended Illinois driver's License. Martinez was placed under arrest and transported to the Sandwich Police Department for processing. Martinez was issued citations for Improper Lane Use, Driving While License Revoked and for Operating and Uninsured Motor Vehicle. Martinez was released on bond and is due in court in LaSalle County on Monday 21 August 2017 at 9:00 AM.






Press Release: 07/31/17 12:43 PM - Depot Street S/O market Street - Driving Under the Influence / Driving While License Revoked

On Monday 31 July 2017 at approx. 12:43 PM, a business owner reported to police that a female, later identified as 53 year old Crystal L. Byars of the 400 Block of N. Center Street, Plano, exited a vehicle parked in front of the business, stumbled into the business and requested service which the business owner refused to provide due to his belief that she was under the influence. The business owner advised Byars that if she got back in her vehicle, that he would call the police. Byars then walked around the block and then attempted to get into the vehicle and then walked away when the business owner told her that he was calling the police. Upon the arrival of the police, the business owner pointed out Byars who was down the street walking east on the sidewalk along E. Market Street. Police made contact with Byars and she admitted to drinking a six pack and a 24 ounce of Bush Light and to driving the vehicle from Plano to Somonauk. Officers could also detect a strong odor of alcohol when speaking with Byars. Byars was placed through field sobriety testing which she was unable to complete. Byars was placed under arrest for driving under the influence and transported to the Sandwich Police Department for processing. Byars was charged with Driving While License Revoked, Operating an Uninsured Motor Vehicle and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Byars was released on an Individual Bond and is due in court on Wednesday August 16, 2017 at 9:00 AM at the DeKalb County Courthouse in Sycamore.






Press Release: 07/24/17 1:50 PM - W/B LaSalle Street at Zeller Street - No Valid Driver's License

On Monday 24 July 2017 at approx 1:50 PM, Somonauk Police stopped a vehicle for speeding. Upon further investigation, it was learned that the driver, identified as 27 year old Gabriel Ayala of the 300 Block of W. Fayette Street, Sandwich, had no valid driver's license. Ayala was placed under arrest and transported to the Sandwich Police Department for processing. Ayala was charged with speeding and no valid driver's license. Ayala was released on an Individual Bond and is due in court in Sandwich on Wednesday 16 August 2017 at 9:00 AM.






Press Release: 05/26/17 8:24 AM - S/B Somonauk Road at Suydam Road - Driving While License Suspended

On Friday 26 May 2017 at approx. 8:24 AM, Somonauk Police stopped a vehicle for speeding. Upon further investigation, it was learned that the driver, 22 year old Dustin N.N. Sterrett of the 400 Block of S. Main Street, Leland, Illinois had a suspended Illinois Driver's License. Sterrett was placed under arrest and transported to the Sandwich Police Department for processing. Sterrett was issued a citation for speeding 73 MPH in a 55 MPH speed zone and a citation for Driving While Suspended. Sterrett was released on an IBond and is due in court in Sandwich on Wednesday 21 June 2017 at 9:00 AM.






Press Release: 05/22/17 1:24 PM - E/B 700 Block W. Market Street - Driving While License Revoked

On Monday 22 May 2017 at approx. 1:24 PM, Somonauk Police stopped a vehicle for speeding and for failure to wear seat belt. Upon further investigation, it was learned that the driver, identified as 24 year old Guadalupe Lemus of the 1200 Block of Chicago Street, Mendota, Illinois had a Suspended and Revoked Illinois driver's license. Lemus was placed under arrest for driving while license revoked, and he was transported to the Sandwich Police Department to be processed. Lemus was given a written warning for speeding and for failure to wear seat belt. Lemus was given a citation for driving while revoke and for operating an uninsured vehicle. Lemus was released on an Individual Bond and is due in court in Sandwich on Wednesday 21 June 2017 at 9:00 AM.






Press Release: 05/16/17 9:00 AM - Market Street at Sycamore Street - Driving While License Suspended / In-State Warrant Arrest

On Tuesday 16 May 2017 at approx. 9:00 AM Somonauk Police stopped a vehicle when they observed the driver wearing a stereo headset receiver while driving and also that the registration on the vehicle was expired. The driver was identified as 25 year old Francis N.  Velasques-Cabrera of the 0-100 Block of Downer Place, Aurora, Illinois. Further investigation revealed that Velasquez-Cabrera had a
suspended Illinois Driver's License and also a warrant for his arrest out of Kane County, Illinois for failure to appear on the original charge of driving while license suspended. Velasquez-Cabrera was placed under arrest and transported to the Sandwich Police Department for processing. Velasquez-Cabrera was issued a written warning for wearing a stereo headset receiver while driving and also for operating a vehicle with expired registration. He was issued a state citation for driving while license suspended and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. Velasquez-Cabrera was released on bond and is due in court in Sandwich on Wednesday 21 June 2017 at 9:00 AM on today's charges. He is due to appear in court at the Aurora Branch Court on Tuesday 13 June 2017 at 9:00 AM on the warrant.






Press Release: 05/12/17 3:04 AM - S/B Somonauk Road at Market Street - Driving Under the Influence

At approx. 3:04am, Somonauk Police were dispatched to the area of Somonauk Road and Market Street, Somonauk, Illinois for a driving complaint which the vehicle was southbound Somonauk Road and was observed driving at a very slow pace and all over the road. At approx. 3:11am, the suspect vehicle was stopped on Market Street just west of Arends Hogan Walker, 705 W. Market Street. Upon further investigation, the driver, Gabriela Rocha of Plano, Illinois was believed to be under the influence of alcohol and was taken into custody. Rocha was transported to the Sandwich Police Department where she was issued traffic citations for Failure to Yield at Intersection and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. She was then placed through booking procedures and released on an Individual Bond. Rocha is due in court in Sycamore, Illinois on May 31st, 2017 at 9:00am.






Press Release: 05/01/17 6:53 PM - 500 Block S. Gage Street - In-State Warrant Arrest

On Monday 01 May 2017 at approx. 6:53 PM, Somonauk Police stopped a vehicle for disobeying a stop sign, failure to signal, and for speeding. It was learned that the driver, identified as 50 year old Amy E. Bradford of the 100 Blk of Timmy Trail, Somonauk, Illinois had a valid warrant for her arrest out of Kendall County, Illinois for Failure to Appear on the original charge of Public Indecency / Lewd Exposure.
Bradford was taken into custody on the warrant and transported to the Sandwich Police Department for processing. Bradford posted bond and was released from custody. She is due to appear in court in Yorkville on Friday 12 May 2017 at 8:30 PM. Bradford was additionally issued a written warning for disobeying the stop sign and for failure to signal. She was issued a state citation for speeding.






Press Release: 04/27/17 08:19 AM - Illowa Farms Subdvision - Criminal Damage to Property

On Thursday, April 27th, 2017 at approx. 10:34pm, Somonauk Police responded to the Illowa Farms Subdivision for a report of a criminal damage to vehicle in the 500 block of Dorothy Drive. The owner of the vehicle reported that subject(s) unknown had thrown a large rock at the windshield of their vehicle, which caused damage to both the windshield and driver side wiper. At approx. 11:14pm, while investigating the case above, the officer located another vehicle in the 200 block of Rolin Road, which had the driver door window broken out. A large rock was observed lying next to the vehicle. The owners were notified of the damage. There are no suspects at this time. Anyone with information are asked to call the Somonauk Police Department at (815)498-2351 or the Dekalb County Crime Stoppers at (815)895-3272. Callers can be anonymous and can receive a cash reward of up to $1000.00 for information, which leads to an arrest.






Press Release: 04/23/17 8:36 AM - N/B Gage Street at Market Street - Driving While License Revoked

On Sunday 23 April 2017 at approx. 8:36 AM, a Somonauk Officer observed a vehicle being driven by a driver who was known to not have a valid driver's license. The officer stopped the vehicle and Charles E. Schramer, 65 years old of the 400 Block of W. LaSalle Street, Somonauk, Illinois was placed under arrest for Driving While License Revoked. Schramer was transported to the Sandwich Police Department to be placed through booking procedures. Schramer was also charged with Operating and Uninsured Motor Vehicle. Schramer was released on an IBond and is due in court in Sandwich on Wednesday 17 May 2017 at 9:00 AM.






Press Release: 04/17/17 3:55 PM - W/B LaSalle Street W/o Dewey Street - Driving While License Suspended

On Monday 17 April 2017 at approx. 3:55 PM, Somonauk Police stopped a vehicle for speeding. Upon further investigation, it was learned that the driver, identified as 46 year old Brian E. Craig of the 0-100 Block of Winrock Drive, Montgomery, Illinois was driving on a  suspended driver's license. Craig was placed under arrest and transported to the Sandwich Police department for processing. Craig posted bond and was released from custody. Craig is due to appear in court on Wednesday 17 May 2017 at 9:00 in Sandwich.







Press Release04/17/17 2:20 AM - 200 Block Morrow Street - Disorderly Conduct

Police were dispatched to the 200blk of Morrow St. in reference to a subject pounding on the windows at this location. The victim advised police she was alarmed by the pounding on the windows and called 911. Luis was located in the 100blk of W. 2nd St. in Sandwich and taken into custody for disorderly conduct. Luis transported to the Sandwich Police Department for booking. Luis was given a 05/17/2017 court date in Sycamore.






Press Release: 04/15/17 2:20 PM - LaSalle Street at Holiday Drive - In-State Warrant Arrest

On Saturday 15 April 2017 at approx. 2:20 PM, Somonauk Police made contact with Timothy W. Hankes, 27 years old of the 1200 Block of Lakewood Drive, Somonauk, Illinois for illegally operating an off-road motorcycle on the street. Upon further investigation, it was learned that Hankes had a Failure to Appear warrant for his arrest out of Dekalb County, Illinois for the original charge of DUI - Alcohol. Hankes was taken into custody and transported to the Sandwich Police Department for processing. Hankes posted bond and was released from custody. Hankes is due to appear in court in Sycamore on 10 May 2017 at 9:00 AM.






Press Release02/17/17 10:12 PM - S/B Somonauk Road at Market Street - Driving While License Revoked

On Friday, February 17th, 2017 at approx. 10:12pm, Somonauk Police conducted a traffic stop on a blue 2001 Town & Country mini-van for disobeying the stop sign southbound Somonauk Road at Market Street. The driver, identified as 38 year old Jean Paul Paquette of the 2000 Blk of Russel Ave, Minneopolis Minnesota was taken into custody for Driving While License Revoked. Paquette was transported
to the Sandwich Police Department where he was placed through booking procedures and was released on bond with a court date of Wednesday, March 15th, 2017 at 9:00am in Sandwich.






Press Release: 02/08/17 01:20 AM 600 Block E. LaSalle Street - Traffic Crash / Driving Under the Influence

Somonauk Officer was assisting a Dekalb County Deputy on a traffic stop on LaSalle Street just west of Sheridan Blacktop when a passing motorist advised of a vehicle traveling westbound from the High Heels Saloon driving recklessly. Upon further investigation, the Somonauk Officer located a vehicle in the ditch across from Robinson Roofing, 600 Block of E. LaSalle Street. The driver, Julie N. Glock, was taken into custody for driving under the influence, and cited for improper lane use and no proof of insurance. She was transported to the Dekalb County Jail for bond. She was given a court date of March 1st, 2017 at 9:00am at the Dekalb County Court House in Sycamore, Illinois.






Press Release: 02/06/17 4:53 PM - W/B 700Block W. Market Street - Poss. More Than 10 Grams Cannabis / Poss. Paraphernalia

On Monday 06 February 2017 at approx. 4:53 PM, Somonauk Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding 80 MPH in a 55 MPH speed zone. While speaking with the driver, who was identified as 41 year old Jason A. Orbe of the 400 Block W. Pleasant Street in Sheridan, the officer detected a strong odor of cannabis coming from the vehicle. When questioned about the odor, the driver admitted to being a frequent user of cannabis and handed the officer a metal and glass pipe and a plastic container containing approx. 16.5 grams of cannabis. Orbe was taken into custody and transported to the Sandwich Police Department for Processing. Orbe is charged with Possession of More than 10 grams to 100 grams Cannabis (Class B Misdemeanor) and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Class A Misdemeanor). Orbe was additionally issued a traffic citation for speeding 80 MPH in a 55 MPH speed zone. Orbe posted bond and was released and is due in court in Sandwich on Wednesday March 15, 2017 at 9:00 AM.






Press Release: 01/15/17 9:58 AM - Gage Street at DeKalb Street - Driving While License Suspended

On Sunday 15 January 2017 at approx. 9:58 AM, Somonauk Police observed a vehicle being driven by a Matthew R. Sosdian, 27 years-old of the 100 Block of S. Dewey Street and it was known to the officer that Sosdian's Illinois Driver's License was currently Suspended. A traffic stop was conducted and Sosdian was taken into custody for Driving While License Suspended. Sosdian was transported to the Sandwich Police Department where he was placed through booking procedures and later released on bond. Sosdian is due in court on Wednesday 15 February 2017 at 9:00 AM in Sandwich.






Press Release: 01/14/17 2:20 PM - Gage Street at Geraldine Court - In-State Warrant Arrest

On Saturday 14 January 2017 at approx. 2:20 PM, Somonauk Police had contact with Lindsay A. Whitmer, 26 years-old of the 1100 Block of Lillian Lane, Sandwich, Illinois. Somonauk Police learned that Whitmer had a warrant for her arrest out of LaSalle County, Illinois for Failure to Appear on the original charge of Driving Under the Influence. Whitmer was transported to the Sandwich Police Department where she was placed through booking procedures and she was later released after posting bond and is due in court at 9:00 AM on Thursday 26 January 2017 in Ottawa.







Press Release: 01/08/17 11:41 AM - E/B Market Street at Maple Street - No Valid Driver's License

On Sunday 08 January 2017 at approx. 11:41 AM, Somonauk Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for speeding 50 MPH in a 35 MPH speed zone in the area of Market Street and Maple Street. The driver, identified as 50 year old Martin Coronel Arroyo of the 200 Block of Sandra Avenue, Mendota, Illinois was taken into custody for No Valid Driver's License. Coronel Arroyo was transported to the Sandwich Police Department where he was placed through booking procedures and was released on bond with a court date of Wednesday 15 February 2017 at 9:00 AM in Sandwich.







Press Release: 01/07/17 1:10 PM - Jim's Automotive - Burglary

On Saturday 07 January 2017 at approx. 1:10 PM Somonauk Police responded to Jim’s Automotive, 215 E. North Street for a report of a burglary that occurred. An employee of the business reported to police that he discovered that unknown person(s) had gained access to the business by breaking a window on the front door. Desk drawers appeared to have been gone through but employees indicated nothing appeared to have been taken and the only loss the business is known to have suffered at this time is the broken glass on the door. There are no suspects at this time. Anyone with information is asked to call the Somonauk Police Department at (815) 498-2351 or the DeKalb County Crime Stoppers at (815) 895-3272. Callers can be anonymous and can receive a cash reward of up to $1000.00 for information which leads to an arrest.
